Referendum for the Residents of Central and North Queensland to Vote on Forming a New State.
Queensland citizens draws to attention of the House the Australian Constitution, Chapter VI, which provides for the establishment of New States. Those who drafted our Australian Constitution some 120 years ago, foresaw that as the nation grew and prospered, our former colonial capitals and parliaments would not well serve the interests of people in far flung regions. The advancement of Central and Northern Queensland and the prosperity of their residents shall be better served by a parliament of their own.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to make the immediate provision to initiate a Referendum to enable the residents of Central and North Queensland to vote on the proposition of forming a new State of the Commonwealth Australia.
The Boot Brisbane Campaign has based its efforts, actions and lessons learned on the New England Movement that succeeded in securing the 1967 New South Wales Referendum to form a New State. The formation any New State shall not proceed without a successful Referendum ‘YES’ vote by the residents in the areas within the New State.
